Pregnancy Nutrition Myths and Facts

 There are many different myths and facts surrounding the topic of pregnancy nutrition. I will list a few here to give you a brief overview. While you should always talk with your doctor, nutrition during pregnancy is generally safe for most women. Most of the myths revolve around drinking and eating foods that are out of the ordinary for you, such as exotic meats, strange fruits, and vegetables that aren't common in your area, etc. I'm going to cover a few of the myths here and give you some helpful information to make sure you are eating right and balanced during your pregnancy.

One of the big myths out there is that women who eat chocolate during pregnancy are at risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. This is simply not true! As we mentioned above, it is important to talk to your doctor about any concerns you have concerning your diet during this time. Chocolate does contain high amounts of certain antioxidants, which have been shown to lower the chances of certain types of cancers. But women who do eat chocolate may not be at risk for these diseases anyway.



Another big myth surrounding nutrition during pregnancy is that you need to avoid anything "greasy". This couldn't be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, you should be able to eat all kinds of foods in moderation, including the greasy ones. So don't let the myths stop you from enjoying a healthy, balanced pregnancy.

Many women think that if they are going to eat something heavy, like a piece of meat, it must be good for them. This is simply not true. Although most protein sources, like meat, can be good for you, too much protein is bad for you. So don't just assume that because something is meaty, it's going to be good for you.

While most women eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, they also need a significant amount of carbohydrates. It's important for pregnant women to get carbohydrates, which are converted into glucose, daily in their nutrition plan. In fact, this is even more important for women during pregnancy, as glucose helps carry oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

Pregnancy nutrition is really about making sure that you are getting everything your body needs. There are many foods that women should eat, just as there are many foods that women shouldn't eat. Just follow a solid food plan that includes plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and protein. This will ensure that you get the proper nutrition, no matter what you eat.
